Firing someone for their Christian religious tenets of faith is illegal, Federal Supreme Court "core values" ruling, they do not lose their civil rights while on the job. 
Their first amendment rights are upheld at the job as well, and to fire someone over religious faith also violates their protected class status under religion as identified in the 1964 civil rights act, time to file suit against the University.
